Did you know that the European Union bans 1,400 ingredients from use in cosmetics and skincare products?
Now guess how many the US bans.
Ready?
It’s thirty.
You read that right. The EU bans about 1,370 ingredients that the US does NOT ban.
With so many ingredients being questionable at best, this is an alarmingly high number. This means that skincare and cosmetics companies do not have to avoid the use of these ingredients, many of which are used as fillers, coloring additives, texture enhancers and a variety of other uses.
You may know some of the most common offenders: pthalates, parabens, tolulene. There are many, many more.
We use these products every day on our skin, face, hair, and body – not to mention on kids and family members. This is alarming, to say the least.
So what do you do?
-
Get educated. Research. Check out the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) resources here.
-
Replace any questionable products with cleaner, safer ones.
-
Spread the word. This affects everyone who uses cosmetics and skincare products; for those with chronic health issues, the impact may be even more significant.
May you be well.
