Quick + Easy Relief for Sinus and Nasal Congestion

Sniffles, runny nose, congestion or sinus pressure got you down?

Use this simple at-home treatment to clear our your nasal and sinus passages, allowing for drainage of the yucky stuff so that you can feel clearer and better.

This is also great to use preventively and at the first sign of nasal or sinus congestion.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Large pot

  • Some water

  • Large towel

  • A good essential oil: tea tree, oregano, or thyme (optional but much more therapeutic)

Steps:

  1. Fill the large pot with about 1 inch of water and bring to a boil.

  2. Remove pot from heat and set on heat-proof surface, like a counter or on a towel on your table.

  3. Add 2-3 drops of tea tree, oregano or thyme essential oil.

  4. Position yourself so that your head is over the pot (i.e. you’re getting a steam treatment) with your chin parallel to the ground (not face down). Be careful not to touch the hot pot or burn yourself.

  5. Drape the towel over your head and the pot, creating a tent to keep steam in.

  6. Deeply inhale through you nose, exhaling out through mouth or nose.

  7. Continue for 3-5 minutes, or as long as you can tolerate the steam.

  8. You’ll probably need to blow your nose afterwards.

Repeat daily, in the morning and evening for most benefit.

Even easier: add some essential oil drops to your steamy hot shower to help clear your nasal and sinus passages when they’re congested (and help wake up your senses in the early am).
