The Importance of Prioritizing YOU: Self-care

“First you save yourself, then you save the world…” the song goes on. While we may initially feel guilty for prioritizing self-care, we must recognize that in order to best care for others, we must care for ourselves. Taking care of ourselves allows us to be at our best, so that our shine can uplift others in a multitude of ways.

This week is going to be chock-full of work, so the challenge of squeezing in some self-care provides an opportunity to rise to the occasion and practice it.

Self-care may include:

  • Making conscious, healthy eating choices

  • Staying hydrated

  • Exercise (when the stress gets to be a lot, take a walk outside)

  • Sleep at least 6 hours nightly (even better: 8 or more hours)

  • Sip on some hot green tea

  • Say no to candy

  • Relax with mindful breathing

  • Enjoy your daily shower or bath (don’t rush and no outside thoughts or stress)

  • Practice gratitude at the end of the day (pause and write down or say aloud 3 things you are grateful for on that day)

On that note, a nice visual reminder I recently saw on social media:
